The smartwatch maker Pebble has made an entry into the smart ring arena. The devised an innovative smart ring, called Pebble Index 01 with a single primary purpose. It does not count your steps or monitor your sleep, it just records voice notes.
As per Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky, “It does one thing really well – it helps me remember things” Pebble Index 01 is a ring that is not a health tracker; it has no heart rate sensors, no sleep monitoring, and no scores.
Pebble Index 01 Features
The Index 01 is a dedicated, screenless tool for capturing the thoughts that pass through your brain throughout the day. The Index 01 has a button, a microphone, a Bluetooth chip, a sliver of memory and a long-life silver-oxide hearing-aid battery that cannot be recharged but lasts for years.
At first glance, the concept of the Index is refreshingly simple.
The Pebble Index 01 features a single button and has a microphone. When phone near you, it hands the audio to the Pebble app, which converts speech to text locally and quietly files it into your notes, reminders or calendar.
The ring can store up to five minutes of audio on it for syncing, if the phone away from you. There are around 99 languages that it supports for speech-to-text.
Pebble Index 01 Battery
Another aspect of the Pebble Index 01 is eye-opening too. It has a non-rechargeable, non-replaceable battery.
Pebble claims this setup provides roughly two years of battery life based on average use roughly 20 interactions a day. However, once the battery is dead, it’s dead—and Pebble encourages users to return the ring for recycling.
As per Eric Migicovsky, “I use it 10-20 times per day to record 3-6 second thoughts. That’s about 2 years of usage”.
Pebble Index 01 Specification
The Pebble Index 01 spec show that it is made from 316 stainless steel and is water-resistant (hand washing and showering).
The ring comes in three colors—Polished Silver, Polished Gold, and Matte Black. The size of ring in US ring sizes 6 through 13.
Pebble Index 01 availability
The Pebble Index 01 is testing mode. The founder of Pebble welcomes hackers to begin adding their own features rather than promising they will be baked in.
He said, “We’re leaving the side door open for folks to customize, build new interactions and actions,” he says
The ring can be pre-ordered and the price for that is $75. The ring is expected to see a price rise of $99 later in the future. The shipping for the Pebble Index 01 begins in March 2026.
