Fans of extreme gaming and multimedia developers are big fans of Alienware. With its showy, high-tech designs, some may argue that the brand has it all.
Last year, it was a surprise to us when Dell-owned Alienware came out with its new X-series laptops. They were the first thin and lightweight gaming laptops from the brand. A new laptop from Alienware, the Alienware x14, is even smaller this year, and it’s said to be the thinnest gaming laptop ever. The Alienware x14 cost comes at a $1,799 price and should be available for purchase when it launches in the first quarter of 2022.
The Alienware x14 Gaming Laptop: Everything We know
In the United States, the Alienware x14 will be available for $1,799 this winter.
Unlike the Alienware x15 and x17, which have bigger frames, the Alienware x14 only has a 14-inch frame that weighs about 4 pounds and is 0.57 inches thick. All of its parts fit into this frame. The Alienware x14 is the thinnest laptop Alienware has ever made. This ultra thin gaming laptop has a dual-torque hinge that frees up space inside the computer, allowing 85W of power in a very small space.
This Alienware x14 gaming laptop flaunts Element 31, a gallium-silicone matrix that keeps the computer cool. It can run up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12900H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics. In addition, the x14 has up to 32GB of DDR5 memory that can’t be changed because the RAM slots have been soldered to the motherboard. It also has a 2TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD that can be used in only one slot.
As long as you have a Core i7 processor and 32GB of RAM, you won’t have any trouble with heavier tasks, and Nvidia’s new RTX 3060 graphics card can play most games at a relatively high frame rate just fine.
In addition to the display, there is a lot to like here. One setup was provided to us by Dell in the press materials, and it’s a strong one. 144Hz refresh rate and 7-millisecond response time characterize the 14-inch, 1080p display on the Alienware x14 laptop. So far, not much to report on. It does have a reduced blue light technology built into it, though, which helps to reduce eye fatigue without sacrificing image quality. Both G-Sync and Advanced Optimus Technology for switching amongst integrated and separate graphics are supported by this motherboard.
Relating to its appearance, the Alienware x14 gaming laptop has “14” stenciled on its lid, making it a shrunken version of the other X-series laptops. Part-aluminum, part-magnesium alloy chassis features a luminous alien helmet, honeycomb-shaped air inlet, and Lunar Light (white) paintwork.
The ports include two Thunderbolt 4 inputs, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a microSD card slot. A Killer AX1690i wireless card is included in the x14 to provide Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
To put it another way, the Alienware x14 is a further demonstration of the company’s ability to shrink after the x15 and the x17. Even yet, the x14 is only capable of supporting the less powerful RTX 3060, and you don’t get the more powerful Core i9 option or higher resolution panels, either.
Although the battery life of the 80Whr cell could make the Alienware x14 more appealing to non-gamers who want a portable device with a discrete GPU, this could depend on gamers who need an all-purpose laptop for work or education.
