The boring traditional routines for fitness have been changed! Boise’s Black Box VR has revolutionized the fitness industry by gamifying gym experience.

The world’s largest Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has honored the Boise Company with Innovation Award at the CES 2018 for developing the world’s first full-fitness virtual reality gym experience – a resistance-based virtual reality experience device, Black Box VR. It is the first to function as automated cable resistance machine integrated with virtual eSports software (from HTV Vive) and virtual reality hardware.

One of the founders, Ryan DeLuca, had earlier admitted in October 2016 that the company is working hard to change the fitness industry when he said: “We think we have a big opportunity to do something that could really help people get in shape and stick to their programs.” This was when they announced that the virtual reality platform that could change fitness routines was in the final stage.

Black Box VR team, Ryan DeLuca, and Preston Lewis spent many years building Bodybuilding.com – now the world’s largest online supplement retailer with approximately $500 million annual sales.

“There are a lot of games that are fun…a lot of games you level up your character while you’re getting more out of shape sitting there,” DeLuca added. “We want to make it for the first time, ever that you level up yourself.” The Black Box VR was motivated when Ryan DeLuca and Preston Lewis were sourcing for a solution to decreasing gym members and low attendance. It was clear to them that hating to work out and inconsistency were the causative factors. And experiencing VR gave them insights of the potential the technology could bring to fitness and gym. The pair realized that integrating resistance training with gaming principles can help a lot of people to attain their health and fitness goals.

The Black Box VR is surely redefining the fitness industry. It provides users with a time-dilated, intense, custom workout in a gamified and competitive experience through virtual reality. Preston Lewis alleged that users would be able to exploit balance, strength, speed, and agility in a virtual world which is larger than life. “Virtual world where we are able to harness the nature that is brought out in video games – dedication, determination, and longevity – and turn it into real, physical workouts that challenge both mind and body,” he added.

They also collaborated with many talented individuals to create some of the most recognized supplement brands in the world and top fitness mobile apps. They have also received an award for health and fitness campaigns while also creating the largest fitness social network in the world with over 3 million members.

Indeed, the Black Box VR is a product that has harnessed a groundbreaking power to change the landscape of result-driven exercise. The CEO and Cofounder, Ryan DeLuca said the company is proud to be honored with a CES Innovation Award while being excited to unveil the product in Las Vegas.
