Elon Musk Might Cross a Key Feature off X: Block Feature Removal

Over the years, Twitter (now, X) has introduced various features aimed at enhancing user control and safety. However, a recent announcement from Twit Chief Elon Musk has sparked controversy. Musk’s off-handed reply suggested that X’s content block feature, a vital tool for content control, could be removed.

Blocking has long been regarded as a safety feature on X. By blocking accounts, users can effectively remove unwanted interactions and harassment from their feeds. It has become an essential tool for public figures and individuals alike, who seek to have more social media content control.

“Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs. Makes no sense.” 

This unexpected statement immediately garnered attention and concern from X users who rely on the block feature for safety and managing their online experience.

Elon Musk and X’s Censorship: X Blocking Feature Removal

While some users questioned the need for the block feature, pointing out that muting could achieve similar results, it is important to note that the two features are not the same. Mute simply hides a user’s posts from another account’s timeline, without notifying the muted user. “Blocking helps people in restricting specific accounts from contacting them, seeing their tweets, and following them.” 

Importantly, Twitter clarified that even if a user has been blocked by another account, they can still block other accounts, including those that have blocked them.

Elon Musk’s role as the owner of X has added a layer of intrigue to the controversy. Musk’s tweets often generate significant attention and have the potential to shape the platform’s direction.
