If you are thinking about upgrading the Galaxy Chromebook to a Galaxy Chromebook 2, it’s better to reconsider your decision! The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a disappointment than its predecessor. Except for two points- the price and the battery! The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is also not as powerful as the predecessor. While the Galaxy Chromebook device had a bigger battery that offers only 8 hours of battery life, the Galaxy Chromebook 2 gives up to 13 hours.
The Galaxy Chromebook 2 device is for an entirely different user market. The lower price of the Chromebook 2 is crucial here- as the low price tag makes up all the device downgrades. That is almost half the price of the original device. The Galaxy Chromebook 2 and Galaxy Chromebook are both for different user bases. The original Galaxy Chromebook was explicitly designed for the Pixelbook owners with top-class specifications, enhanced performance, and a glamour design backed by the best screen Chromebook has ever had.
The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is more for a budget-friendly customer base who will happily pay a premium to get the Samsung style and a primary screen. Though the screen of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a downgrade, it still is the Chromebook device equipped with a QLED screen and has 1080p resolutions suited for a 13.3-inch touchscreen.
The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook has a striking 13.3-inch Chrome OS, a 4K-resolution AMOLED display, and a powered Intel Core i5 processor. The first Chromebook has the 13.3-inch QLED display and 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution- a combination usually found only in Samsung Windows 10 laptops. The Chromebook has the Celeron configuration- with 4GB memory power and 64GB storage. The rest of the Chromebook 2 and Chromebook package is similar, with a 1.2 kg body, a sleek aluminum chassis, backlit keyboard, and a color-coordinated touchpad. Both the devices also have multiple USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and a right microSD card slot.
One similarity between Chromebook and Chromebook 2 is that both the devices don’t support Samsung S Pens. Instead, Samsung included the USI pen support.
Galaxy Chromebook 2 review
The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 device lacks many of the striking features of the Galaxy Chromebooks. One is the stylus, a fingerprint sensor, and a responsive OLED panel. However, these are substituted by powered battery life and a sub-$700 pricing. It doesn’t make the Chromebook 2 the groundbreaking Chromebook device, but a device that one would want to buy! The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is similar in terms of looks to the Galaxy Chromebook from far. The Galaxy Chromebook sale relied heavily on its striking design. The Chromebook 2, on its part, is available in a shimmering “fiesta red” color- something between bright red and bright orange colors!
Despite the lack of an OLED display, the Chromebook 2 still has one of the striking displays Samsung ever made. The display is enormous, with vibrant colors and definite contrasts. The Chromebook 2 is good to watch entertainment videos and displays. Overall the Chromebook 2 is a suitable device.
Galaxy Chromebook 2 vs. Galaxy Chromebook
If you are looking for a budgeted device, the Chromebook 2 is a fair buy. If you want higher specs and willing to shell out a bit of money, the Chromebook is the one you should go for!
