Famous gaming gear brand HyperX added a new mechanical keyboard to its peripheral lineup. The keyboard named ‘Alloy Elite 2â is created with ‘pudding keycaps.’ This means that the keyboard is made of a unique material that allows RGB backlighting in the device to shine. Most of the keycaps in regular keyboards are solid throughout, with light spilling out from underneath the keys and through the font inscribed on the top. But in HyperX’s keyboard, the Hyperx Pudding Keycaps have translucent sides that allow more light to escape from underneath.

Keyboard and keycaps, in general, have dual-layer ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and double-shot PBT (polybutylene terephthalate). The double-shot PBT is thicker and more durable, also expensive in comparison. HyperX sells the Hyperx Pudding Keycaps which are PBT, but it decided to add keycaps with ABS on the Alloy Elite 2 keyboard.

HyperX’s Alloy Elite 2 mechanical keyboard is designed to fulfil the most rigorous demands of a professional gamer.
HyperX has installed its Red key switches underneath the keycaps. This is similar to the Cherry MX Red switches, which are linear and the key action becomes much smooth without any tactile feedback. However, HyperX states it has a shorter actuation point at 1.8mm versus 2mm, and a lower travel distance at 3.8mm versus 4mm. When it comes to durability, HyperX states the Red is suitable for 80 million keystrokes, while Cherry rates the MX Reds keycaps for “greater than 50 million.“
The Alloy Elite 2 keyboard has media keys located on the upper-right section with a volume dial. The users can also switch between three different onboard profiles, though there are no specific gaming/macro keys on the keyboard. Additional features of the keyboard include USB 2.0 pass-through, 100 per cent anti-ghosting capability, full N-key rollover, and an RGB lightbar located on the top of the keyboard. The Alloy Elite 2 keyboard is available for $129.99.
