The wearable industry is growing at a good pace, but users’ trust in wearable brands is slowly dying. According to a survey, 74% of wearable device users are worried about their data and privacy safety. Reports also suggest that only 58% users are confident in the brand’s claim and are confident about their privacy safety. This number signals rising concern among users about privacy and data safety.
Now, wearables track almost every essential detail, including heart rate, blood oxygen, HRV, sleep, daily routine, step, and whatnot. As a user, fear is real given the data in the hands of top wearable brands, which can be misused easily.
Why Users Are Losing Trust?
Recently, a survey was conducted on 400 US consumers, which unveiled the lack of trust amongst users. Shockingly, people had less trust in top wearable brands and trusted emerging brands more. Some users believe that health data can be used for several purposes, and it can be shared with insurance companies, employers, and third parties, violating people’s privacy.
This low trust can encourage users to switch from wearable devices, affecting the industry. However, the trust depends on brands.
Most-Trusted Wearable Brand, And It’s Not Apple
When it comes to privacy, Apple has created a legacy with its iPhones. iOS was always preferred over any Android device when it comes to safeguarding privacy. But we can’t say the same about Apple when it comes to wearable devices. As per survey reports, Garmin is the most-trusted wearable brand, with 75% users having confidence in it for protecting their data.
Second is Samsung with 70% consumers’ trust, followed by Apple and Oura at 63%. Experts believe that the reason behind Garmin’s ranking on top is the company’s policy to not monetize user data for advertising and keep activities private until users consent to share.
Is Privacy Becoming a New Major Concern?
Survey data suggests that users have more trust in transparent brands that keep them updated about their data usage. Users feel more confident when they have a sense of control over their personal data. Brands can earn consumer trust by keeping them updated on their data storage and how effectively it is used.
Brands’ transparency can make users more comfortable and less anxious, eventually earning their trust. As it plays a major role in deciding the sales of the product.
