For those who have been living under a rock, earlier Insta360 released a video to tease its upcoming camera’s video capability. The brand Insta360 has quickly rose to become a popular product in the consumer 360 photography category. Its latest device, the Insta360 One, has made a name of itself for its mobile immersive imaging capability. The device offers 4K video resolution, 24 MP stills, and the ability to work in standalone mode. In addition, it can work remotely with your smartphone as a Bluetooth controller. Users can also use an iPhone or iPad as a viewfinder.

Technowize reviewed the latest offering by Insta360, and found the latest device comes with a number of improvements. This includes the ability to select an angle and export a 1080p non-surround video clip. One can also use image stabilization to yield smoother video or create a bullet time video effect in slow-motion.

Insta360

Insta360 is priced at $299. The device shoots video at either 3,840 x 1,920 at 30 fps or 2,560 x 1,280 at 60 fps. It is the first consumer 360 camera that offers the LOG format option. In addition, it can take 24-megapixel photos with RAW format option. There’s also an internal battery, but without an internal storage – meaning, you’ll need a MicroSD card.

The only downside with this device is that it lacks WiFi connectivity for remote view. Although, you’d be happy to know that it has an optional IP68 waterproof casing for depths up to 30 meter. The device also come with a plastic tube to protect the device’s two lenses. You can use the shallower end of the tube to mount the device so the tube can be used as a stand. In addition, you can use the mount the camera on a tripod, monopod or a selfie stick.

By all means, the device’s most useful feature is the accompanying app called FreeCapture. All you need to do is load a 360 clip on FreeCapture mode, and use your phone as a video camera and pan around, zoom in and out. It also offers a SmartTrack editing tool so you can yield 1080p clip. Currently, the app is only available on for Apple devices. An Android version of the app will be available soon.

The Insta360 is a neat device. It will start shipping on September 5, with accessories available later this year.
