In the last few years, many entrepreneurs have been expanding their companies to enter the wearable market. While some are trying to expand their production section, others are building new startups from scratch. One such example is Deepinder Goyal’s wearable startup Temple. In January, he stepped down from the role of CEO at Eternal, parent company of Zomato, Blinkit, District, and others.
While analysts were speculating on the reasons behind the sudden quit, Goyal launched his new wearable startup Temple on February 27. As per his claims, Temple is developing a brain monitoring device that will be pasted on the forehead area of its users. The device is especially designed for professional athletes to reach their best potential.
What is Temple?
Temple is a wearable startup founded by Deepinder Goyal, focused on developing a non-invasive brain monitoring device. Goyal posted on X on February 27 and said, “Temple has raised $54 million in the first round of funding with the help of family and friends, bringing its post-money valuation to $190 million.”

In the announcement post, Goyal also said that all the money is funded by family and friends who believed in his vision. To his surprise, more than 30 Temple employees also invested money. However, he is not yet sure whether the device will make it to market. Ironically, Goyal’s post claims that each investor is so sure of the device’s abilities, but he himself is not sure if they can develop a final product for launch.
Well, we need to wait and see before passing any verdict.
Startup’s Controversial Hiring Outshines Its Product
While the idea behind the product and the company’s goals sounds promising, one piece of information is not sitting well with the audience. Along with the startup announcement, Goyal also listed open vacancies for engineers, analysts, coders, and more positions. Eligibility criteria for these positions not only demand educational and technical skills, but it also needs you to be physically fit.
Criteria is as absurd as it sounds. According to Goyal, he is building a device for professional athletes, so he wants someone who can build and test it on themselves. To apply to Temple, male professionals must have less than 16% body fat, and female professionals need to have less than 26% body fat. Although he is ready to give 3 months to his employees to get in shape, if you are really desperate to be part of the organization. Once you get in shape, your probation will end after 3 months.
People are criticizing these criteria left and right since the announcement. While it may seem like some banter, unfortunately its not. Expecting an athlete to show up every day at your office gates to work tirelessly for hours sitting in front of screens is diabolical.
