Japanese firm Nintendo has announced it will extend the availability of the SNES Classic Mini beyond this year. It will also make the NES Classic Mini available again “next summer” in the region. The announcement comes a day after it admitted that it may not have enough stock of the Switch Console to meet the holiday season demand.
Nintendo first launched the NES Classic Edition with pre-loaded games including The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, and Metroid, in July last year. Included in the box is a Nintendo Classic: NES Controller, a HDMI, and a USB power cable. The company originally planned to halt sales at the end of 2017.
Nintendo of Europe announced in a tweet that the SNES Classic Mini would return in the summer of 2018.

The video game company plans to release more Super NES Classic Edition consoles, a miniaturized version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. “Fans have shown their unbridled enthusiasm for these Classic Edition systems, so Nintendo is working to put many more of them on store shelves,” Nintendo said in a release.
A headache for consumers
The announcement of resurrecting Nintendo NES Classic was made on Twitter. The demand for the console is sky-high. Yet, the supply remains low for a wide range of reasons. Enthusiasts looking to purchase one are finding it extremely difficult to get their hands on one in brick and mortar stores and online. A lot of retailers do sell the hardware however, those are at inflated prices.

The SNES Classic goes on sale on September 29. It will be priced at no more than $79.99.
It was only yesterday that Nintendo announced it has dramatically increased the production of Super NES Classic. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé told Financial Times that the company has increased production of the Super NES Classic so fans don’t have to pay the eBay markup.
