The original Oculus Quest is a great device, and Facebook upgraded it across the board while crafting the Oculus Quest 2. The Oculus Quest 2 is comparatively lighter, more powerful, and super-refined than its predecessor.

While the Oculus Quest 2 device doesn’t consist of a game library, it is an overall better alternative than the original Oculus Quest. Not only the hardware and software applications of the Oculus Quest 2 are better, but it is also more affordable than the original Oculus Quest device.

The Snapdragon XR2 processor of the Oculus Quest 2 is an upgraded version that the Snapdragon 835 OS of the original Oculus Quest. It also has 6GB RAM and super-enhanced games, a better performance system, vibrant images, and better all-around looking games. In addition to upgrades of the significant hardware systems, Facebook also redefined the Oculus Quest 2. It is lighter, has more ergonomic Touch Controllers, and supports multiple accessories.

The Oculus Quest 2 starts at $299, which is $100 lower than the price of the original Oculus Quest.  If the user is willing to pay an extra $100, they will get the 256GB variant Oculus Quest 2. The original Oculus Quest maxed out at 128GB capacity and still cost an additional $100 more than the 64GB variant.

The Oculus Quest 2 display is an upgrade with more pixels and supports 72Hz at launch. It also received an update with v23 and supported 90Hz.  It uses RGB stripe, the same technology applied on the Oculus Rift S. Even if the Oculus Quest 2 and Oculus Quest models have the same pixel count, an RGB stripe display will still make the images look sharper.

The Oculus Quest 2 is the first headset from the social giant Facebook where users need to have a Facebook account. The original Oculus Quest also required a user to have a Facebook account to enable full functionality. However, Facebook is ending support for the Oculus accounts on January 1, 2023, and users would get an option to merge their Oculus and Facebook accounts before that date. If a person decided not to merge the accounts, they would still use an older headset but won’t get the full functionality.

Both the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 have the same gaming library, and for a specific time, at least, every game available for the Oculus Quest will also work on the Oculus Quest 2 device. But the games will look and work better on the Oculus Quest 2 as the device has better internals and an enhanced display.  Both the headsets support Oculus Link, which means users will play PCVR games by connecting the VR headset to a gaming PC.
