Samsung Electronics lifted the curtains from its first 85-inch 8K QLED TV in a press conference at Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) 2018, Berlin. It released a full range of 8K Q900R series TVs available in four big sizes – 65”, 75”, 82” and 85”, each of them packed with 8K AI Upscaling technology.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the Q900R to consumers and are confident that they will experience nothing short of brilliance in color, clarity and sound on our new 8K-capable models,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung in an official statement.
Samsung QLED TV’s 8K Feature
The South Korean conglomerate envisions to compete in the space of premium picture quality and big sized displays integrated with advanced technologies from the forefront.
At the IFA press conference, Samsung announced that the new quantum LED TV range is equipped with various 8K-ready enhancements such as Real 8K Resolution, Quantum HDR 8K for high-end visual quality and Quantum Processor 8K powering faster and smoother performance.
All of these advanced capabilities combine together to reproduce 8K-quality life-size pictures with brilliant color, clarity, and sound on the Samsung 8K Q900R series TVs.
The advanced Samsung 8K QLED TV series is slated to hit the US market in October this year. The company did not disclose the price range of this 8K QLED TV series.

Samsung 8K QLED TV: Picture Brightness
According to Samsung, the 8K Q900R series TVs will achieve movie studio-level of brightness with 4,000 nits, thanks to Real 8K Resolution. Evaluating this spec next to other quantum displays, the brightest TV presently available in the market offers 2000 nits of peak brightness.
The brightness figures are quite notable when compared to non-quantum TV sets also. The Samsung QLED 8K TVs fits four times more pixels when measured against a 4K UHD TV and sixteen times more than that of a full HD TV.
Similarly, the Quantum component in the television configuration delivers pictures with pristine deep black levels of contrast. The QLED element when coupled with Q HDR 8K 10+ technology recreates the brightness levels to the optimal point. There is also a Direct Full Array Elite on the 8K QLED TV for an advanced contrast and accurate backlighting system.
Samsung also threw a spotlight on 100 percent Color Volume capability of Q900R TV, facilitating audience to view a spectrum of colors for the most precise picture color output.
Samsung 8K QLED TV: AI Upscaling Technology
Another 8K –enhancement dubbed Quantum Processor 8K, the processing machine of Q900R series TV supports an 8K AI Upscaling technology, a Samsung proprietary. The function of this artificial intelligence-based upscaling algorithm is to convert video and audio quality to a level meeting 8K standards, irrespective of the quality or format of an input device.
In detail, if a viewer watches videos on Samsung 8K QLED TV from an external device such as streaming service, a set-top box, USB or even mobile mirroring, the Quantum Processor 8K is powered to reproduce that content into 8K quality and offer industry-best visual and sound experience.
