Samsung’s latest smartwatch is the Galaxy Watch 3 priced at the $399. The new Watch 3 suits the definition and expectations the people have from a perfect smartwatch. The watch does everything that a smartwatch does- tracks the activities of a person and gives easy access to notifications and many more. Let’s find more in this Galaxy Watch 3 review.

Galaxy Watch 3 Review : Design & Hardware

The Galaxy Watch 3 looks similar to a traditional watch, somewhat identical to the Gear S3 Classic from 2016. It is the closest predecessor to Samsung Galaxy with a much lesser sporty design fit for regular wear. It is also smaller and lighter in comparison to the Galaxy Watch. The display size has been increased on the 45mm version to 1.4 inches, which is quite large on the wrist.

The Galaxy Watch 2 has a bright and colorful display with a sharp resolution. There is also a full-color always-on function, which allows the person to read the time without touching the watch. One can get different size watches in Bluetooth-only or LTE-equipped versions for a mere $50 more.

The distinctive feature of the Watch 3 is the physically rotating bezel, which can be scrolled through the interface. It is easy to use and can be used to navigate efficiently. Watch 3 also has a better quality build than the Active watch line. There is stainless steel in place of aluminum and metal pushers for plastic with Gorilla Glass DX glass display, an 810G mil-spec durability rating, and 5ATM of water resistance.

The watch comes in a box with a leather strap instead of the rubber options. Though the strap isn’t made of high-quality leather, it’s comfortable to wear. One can easily change it to rubber one (20mm for the smaller version, 22mm for the larger model).

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Galaxy Watch Performance

The Galaxy Watch 3 has a speedy interface that is easier to swipe or scroll through. It has the same processor as the Active 2, but the RAM is more at 1GB total. The phone also has twice the storage (8GB) for storing music playlists. The Galaxy Watch 3 is a much faster and easier smartwatch to use, with a performance equal to the recent Apple Watch models. In terms of battery power, though Samsung claims “up to two days” of battery life, it rests at around one day and a half in activewear.

The battery life can be extended by disabling the always-on display and enabling the watch’s battery-saving modes. Charging the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is a slow process and takes up to two hours to fill the battery.

Samsung Watch 3 Software

Like all Samsung’s watches, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has its in-house Tizen operating system. The messaging app displays pictures and emoticons along with conversation history on incoming messages. There are also new control features like silencing alarms or incoming calls with a shake of your wrist or opening and closing the fist to answer a call. Also, there are calendar, weather, Outlook for email, messages, Spotify, Samsung Health for fitness tracking, timer, stopwatch, alarms, world clock, voice recorder, Samsung Pay for mobile payments, and many more apps for better functioning.

In terms of watch face options, Samsung has added new features on Apple’s Infographics face that lets the wearer customize an analog or digital face with informational complications. There is also a new animated weather face that gives updates based on the time and the location of the wearer. One can also download thousands of third-party watch faces on the device.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Fitness Tracking

There is a slew of fitness features like usual activity tracking, automatic workout detection, and heart rate monitoring. Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has added more features like sleep tracking, blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring, and VO2 Max reporting. There is also a feature where one can automatically call an emergency contact when a fall is detected, like the Apple Watch.

Galaxy Watch 3 Price

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is priced at $399 as a start, which is $150 more expensive than the Active 2.
