Smartphone Showdown: iPhone SE 2020 VS One Plus 8

The iPhone SE 2020 is much similar to the iPhone 8- with similar dimensions, cameras, and a 4.7-inch display. The only difference perhaps is that the SE 2020 has the A13 Bionic chipset like the iPhone 11 series, which means the new iPhone is much faster than the iPhone 8. The OnePlus 8 has the flagship specifications at cheaper than the regular prices. It costs nearly twice as much as the iPhone SE 2020 but has a better camera, a 6.55-inch display, and other additional features like an in-screen fingerprint sensor. As such, the OnePlus 8 is superior to the iPhone in many forms.

Price and Availability

The iPhone SE 2020 is available in colors white, black, and red. Though the handset price starts at $399 / £419 / AU$749 for 64GB of storage, upgrading the device to 128GB will cost $449 / £469 / AU$829, and upgrading to 256GB will cost $549 / £569 / AU$999. The OnePlus 8 device starts at $699 / £599 (around AU$1,096) for 8GB of RAM/128GB of storage configuration, though that goes up to $799 / £699 (around $1,372) for 12GB of RAM/256GB of storage.

Design

The iPhone SE 2020 has the dimensions of 138.4mm x 67.3mm x 7.3 mm and is much similar to the iPhone 6, with slight changes to the look. The phone possesses the same basic layout with big top-and-bottom bezels on the front side and a Touch ID fingerprint reader on the below. The volume buttons and a silence switch is located on the left and a lock button towards the right. The full-glass back has a single camera and flash towards the top left corner. The phone possesses IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating.

The OnePlus 8 comes with a sleek and modern look: a waterfall display edges like on the Samsung Galaxy S20, with pinched sides. The phone with dimensions 160.2mm x 72.9mm x 8 mm is easier to hold. The device has a no-touch sensor and only a volume rocker towards the left side and the power button with an OnePlus signature silence located on the right side. The device back has a vertical strip of cameras.

Display

The 6.55-inch AMOLED display of OnePlus 8 is sharp and bright and comes with FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080) and 1300 nits of brightness. The iPhone SE 2020 comparatively has a much smaller 4.7-inch IPS LCD.

Cameras

The iPhone SE 2020 has a 12MP rear camera and a 7MP front-facing camera, similar to the iPhone 8, with the only difference being the software and computation in A13 Bionic chip. The OnePlus 8, on the other hand, is high powered in terms of camera. It possesses a much more varied camera array. There is a 48MP main shooter on the rear side that can shoot in 12MP mode and combines four pixels in one. It also has a 16MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera for up-close photography and a 16MP front-facing camera.

Performance

The OnePlus 8 is equipped with a Snapdragon 865 chipset, either of 8GB RAM or 12GB RAM, for a power-packed performance. It is also 5G-capable, supporting sub-6 frequencies. The iPhone SE 2020, on the other hand, has an A13 Bionic chipset. However, it is unclear how much RAM the new SE device has.

Battery

The iPhone SE 2020 has the same-sized 1,821mAh battery, similar to the iPhone 8. The OnePlus 8 has a much larger 4,300mAh battery in comparison to the iPhone.

The iPhone SE 2020 and OnePlus 8 are built for different customers, Apple lovers will go for the iPhone SE, while the ones who prefer Android or look for more flagship specifications will opt for the OnePlus 8. Both phones highlight the signature features of their respective brands: the iPhone SE 2020 has access to iOS 14 and later versions, and the OnePlus 8 possesses the latest top features to offer a streamlined Android experience to users.
