Ultimate Ears welcomes the new, adorable micro Bluetooth speaker which is a successor to the line-up of Ultimate Ears’ Boom and Boom 2. The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is likely to replace the UE Roll as the cheapest Bluetooth speaker by the brand.
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom looks like a shorter version of UE Boom 2 and MegaBoom. Similar to the Boom 2 and MegaBoom lineup, the Wonderboom also offers 360 degrees of sound range. The micro Bluetooth speaker sports a thicker design. This may be for more internal space of the acoustic design.
Design and build
Ultimate Ears through its Wonderboom attempted to provide a compact speaker that has great sound and a better amount of bass. They were successful in the attempt to a major extent for the speaker dedicatedly sports all the three qualities. Also, the speaker weighs under a pound (425 grams) and has a strongly built and adorable chassis. The round looking speaker has a good hold in your hand and you will feel like you are holding a ball in your hand.
The Wonderboom has big rubberized plus and minus buttons on the chassis. Unlike its other models, the Wonderboom has an extra UE button on it. You can use the UE button to play, pause, skip tracks, and double up with another Wonderboom speaker so that you can augment the sound. Now, you won’t require a smartphone app to pair multiple speakers. However, you cannot turn two speakers into left or right stereo pairs. Also, there is a bungie cord for hanging the micro speaker from various things.
The speaker ditches the 3.5mm microphone port and so there will be no auxillary input option for wired connection available in the speaker. We expected that the USB-C port which is trending in the Bluetooth speakers will make its way in the Wonderboom. Unfortunately, the Wonderboom charges through MicroUSB and doesn’t have a USB-C port.
The sound performance
Usually a micro speaker is not expected to have a high sound range. But Wonderboom micro Bluetooth speaker does not disappoint at all with a rich audio pedigree. The sound is sufficient enough to make a decent-sized room tune-up with its music. However, at a very high volume the sound distorts a bit.
You cannot play music in pool
The speaker is waterproof with the IPX7 rating. But despite being waterproof, the speaker design does not provide support to play music while one is relaxing in the pool. But at least the console won’t damage even though it falls in the water.
Battery life and color options
The battery life of Wonderboom will last up to 10 hours and the speaker can play smoothly up to 100 feet away from the Bluetooth source. The speaker is available in six colors: Stone grey, Phantom, Fireball, SubZero, Cashmere and Lilac.
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom’s Price and Release Date
