Huawei Technologies has released their latest offering – a foldable smartphone that looks stunning. It does not have 5G and utilizes an outward folding design, combined with a last gen processor. To help you get a better understanding of what it gets right and what it does not, read on for our Huawei Mate Xs 2 review. The phone was first announced in April 2022.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 specs

The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is an outward folding phone with a 7.8-inch OLED display when unfurled.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 Specs

There is no denying that the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is one of the thinnest, lightweight foldable phones out there. Unlike most foldables, this one has an outward folding screen. It has a 7.8-inch OLED display with a 2,480 x 2,200p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. When the screen is folded into half, it transforms into a 6.5-inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a 2,480 x 1,176p resolution. The company claims that its new hinge technology will ensure that there are no visible creases on the foldable screen. They also praised the polymer layer on the display and assured prospective customers that it makes the phone screen stronger than its competitors. The display also supports Huwaei’s M-Pen 2s stylus, letting you play, doodle, and draw on the screen.

The Huawei Mate Xs 2 specs include a wide range of features, but might not pack enough power to impress the discerning customer.

Huawei Mate Xs2: Camera

It is impossible to give a Huawei Mate Xs 2 review without mentioning the controls and panels. On top of the phone are the speakers and a noise canceling mic while at the bottom edge it houses a type-C port, speaker, and SIM-card slot. The Mate Xs 2 features a triple camera setup — a 50 MP main camera, 13MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The Mate Xs 2 camera for selfies is placed on the main display and can be accessed when you unfurl the phone to use the larger screen.

Huawei Mate Xs2 : Hardware & Software

The Huawei Mate Xs2 foldable phone is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 under the hood, which only offers 4G connectivity. It runs on its own HarmonyOS 2, based on Android, and comes with a choice of 8GB and 12GB of RAM. The Huawei Mate Xs2 specs include a 8GB  model that has 256GB of storage and a 4,600mAh battery, while the 12GB RAM model has 512GB of storage and a 4,880mAh battery. It features 66W charging but does not support wireless charging. Furthermore, the box does not include a charger.

Huawei Mate Xs2 : Price and Availability

The Mate Xs 2 hardly weighs 257 gms and feels light as a feather in comparison to other phones. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is currently only available in its home country — China — from May 6. Slighter cheaper than earlier models, the Mate Xs 2 price is approximately $1,200 and goes up for models with higher specifications. Considering the fact that Huawei has earlier sold its smartphones in the UK and European markets, it is possible that the company will do the same for the Mate Xs 2.

The smartphone is available in three colors – Black, White, and Purple.

Final Verdict

Someone has rightly said, “Looks are not everything.” It is lightweight and stunning, but the Huawei Mate Xs 2 specs fall short in the connectivity department as there is no 5G connectivity. For US customers, availability is an issue and it remains to be seen whether the company will be able to market the phone there. To summarize our Huawei Mate Xs 2 review, its design is quite similar to its predecessor, the Mate Xs, and although the Snapdragon processor might not be the latest one, it helps run things smoothly. So, unless you are an avid gamer who needs top-of-the-range features, this smartphone works well to fit your needs and budget.Â
