When it comes to a business-class laptop, there are very few brands in the market worth the buck. There is Dell and HP, and of course, Lenovo’s ThinkPad line of portable machines. There is one brand which doesn’t get the attention it deserves – Toshiba. Come to think of it, its Portégé line is the best for business-grade laptop out there.
At a glance, the Toshiba Portégé x30 is a plain-looking 13.3-inch business ultrabook. It does incorporate consumer-friendly features such as a thin and light structure, Thunderbolt, USB Type-C, Windows Hello and more. It boats up to 18 hours of battery life depending on usage.
The Portégé featherweight clamshell at a little over 1kg, and a thin 15.9mm chassis that easily slides into your bag. Carry this birdie for long, and you may even forget you are carrying a laptop. It’s a good mix of a commercial and consumer notebook.
It is equipped with a 7th generation Intel Core i7 7600U and 16GB of DDR4 2133. It has a single stick of RAM and not a dual 4GB. With the two slots, you can upgrade up to 32GB by purchasing an additional stick. There is no high-end NVIDIA or AMD GPU on Portégé X30, meaning it is not designed for hardcore gaming.
The 13.3-inch display boasts a resolution of 1080p, and does a pretty good job of preventing reflections. It doesn’t show fingerprints either!
The speakers on Toshiba X30 are quite impressive, however, they are lacking bass. The keys on the laptop don’t disappoint either. They are well-spaced and offer a user-friendly movement. The backlighting on the keyboard is bright and useful.
The only odd choice Toshiba made with the laptop is with the placement of the trackpad. The fingerprint reader is on the top left of the trackpad, as well as for mouse movement. Such placement doesn’t always guarantee fluid movement and accuracy. Portégé X30 also comes with IR camera for Windows Hello, so you don’t need a fingerprint reader to unlock the camera.
The Toshiba Portégé X30 is an impressive business-grade laptop, and when paired with a docking station, becomes a go-to desktop companion. It’s featherweight, powerful, and boasts an excellent design. Moreover, it’s pretty easy to upgrade the laptop.
